President Boakai Calls for Peace and Unity at the Official Funeral Service of Former Vice-President John Dakana Gray

Executive Mansion, Monrovia – President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr., has called for peace, unity, and reflection as the nation bids farewell to the late Honorable Deacon John Dakana Gray, a distinguished son of Grand Cape Mount County.

The President made the remarks during the official funeral service held on Thursday, December 19, 2024, at the Effort Baptist Church on Weaver Street, Paynesville City, Montserrado County.

Addressing the gathering, President Boakai lauded Honorable Gray’s life of service, describing him as a selfless leader committed to the education and empowerment of Liberia’s youth. He added that Honorable Gray’s dedication to national peace and stability during the country’s most turbulent times remains a testament to his patriotism and unwavering sense of duty.

“Honorable Gray was more than a public servant; he was a pillar of peace and stability. Even during the darkest days of Liberia’s civil conflict, he stood firm in his commitment to protecting lives and preserving the nation’s integrity,” President Boakai stated.

The President extended his heartfelt condolences to the family of the fallen Liberian Vice President, urging his Widow and loved ones to find solace in the Lord. He expressed gratitude to the people of Grand Cape Mount County for organizing a dignified farewell to a man who served his Country with honor and humility.

Honorable John Dakana Gray’s legacy includes his brief but pivotal role as Vice President under the interim leadership of President Moses Z. Blah during Liberia’s civil war.

As Liberia mourns the passing of Honorable Gray, President Boakai called on all citizens to put aside differences and work toward the continued upliftment and development of the nation.

“Let this moment remind us of the importance of unity and collective responsibility as we strive to build a Liberia that honors the sacrifices of those who came before us,” President Boakai exhorted.
