President Boakai Congratulates His Holiness Pope Leo XIV on Historic Election

Executive Mansion, Monrovia - President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr., has extended heartfelt congratulations to His Holiness Pope Leo XIV on his election as the 267th Bishop of Rome and Supreme Pontiff of the Roman Catholic Church.

The President recognized the historic nature of this election, as Pope Leo XIV becomes the first American-born Pontiff in the Church’s two-millennia history. Born Robert Francis Prevost in Chicago, Pope Leo XIV brings a wealth of pastoral experience, having served as a missionary and bishop in Peru and, most recently, as Prefect of the Dicastery for Bishops .  

The Liberian Leader commended the new Pope’s commitment to peace, unity, and social justice, as reflected in his inaugural message: “Peace be with all of you!” .

He expressed hope that Pope Leo XIV’s leadership will continue to inspire dialogue, compassion, and service to humanity, values that resonate deeply with the people of Liberia.

The Liberian Chief Executive recommitted Liberia’s resolve to fostering strong relations with the Holy See and supporting the Catholic Church’s mission in promoting human dignity and global solidarity.
