President Boakai Returns Home Following ECOWAS Summit, Commends Regional Leadership

During the Summit, President Boakai joined fellow West African leaders in discussions on regional peace and security, economic integration, infrastructure development, institutional reforms, and the future of regional cooperation. He also participated in the official opening activities, including the ceremonial planting of the Tree of Regional Integration and the signing of the ECOWAS Unity Wall, symbolizing the Community’s shared vision of a peaceful, united, and prosperous West Africa.

On behalf of the Republic of Liberia, President Boakai signed three major regional instruments adopted during the Summit: the ECOWAS Gender Parity Agreement, which sets regional targets for increasing women’s representation in leadership and decision-making; the Declaration of Commitment to the Compact for the Future of Regional Integration, which provides a framework for stronger cooperation, economic transformation, and sustainable development; and the Inter-Governmental Agreement for the African Atlantic Gas Pipeline Project, a regional energy initiative aimed at expanding connectivity, encouraging investment, and supporting industrial growth across participating countries.

At the close of the Summit, President Boakai congratulated His Excellency Dr. Julius Maada Bio, President of the Republic of Sierra Leone, for his steadfast leadership as Chairman of the ECOWAS Authority and for successfully hosting the regional gathering. He also congratulated His Excellency Bassirou Diomaye Faye, President of the Republic of Senegal, on his assumption of the Chairmanship of the ECOWAS Authority, expressing confidence in his leadership as the regional body continues its work to advance peace, democratic governance, economic cooperation, and regional integration.

President Boakai said Liberia will continue working with its ECOWAS partners to address shared challenges and expand opportunities that improve the lives of the region’s citizens. He noted that the outcomes of the Summit reflect the region’s determination to strengthen cooperation through practical actions that advance inclusive governance, strategic infrastructure, economic growth, and lasting peace.

President Boakai was accompanied by senior government officials and has since resumed his official duties in Liberia.
