VP Koung Represents President Boakai In Nigeria: Holds Discussions With Top Nigerian Officials
Office of The Vice President, Monrovia - February 15, 2024-Liberia's Vice President Jeremiah Kpan Koung has concluded his official visit to the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
VP Koung was in Nigeria to represent President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr. at the Inaugural Ceremonies of His Excellency Douye Diri, Governor of Bayelsa State which took place on February 14, 2024.
While in Nigeria, according to a dispatch, the Honorable Vice President met an array of top Government officials of Nigeria to strengthen bilateral relations between Liberia and Nigeria.
On the sidelines of the Inaugural Ceremonies, Hon. Koung held discussions with Governor Diri on the possible collaborations with Bayelsa State in the petroleum sector and to encourage potential investors.
The Vice President also indicated that Liberia and Bayelsa State can open new streams of economic cooperation and maximize the potential of both economies in the areas of Agriculture and Fisheries.
Vice President Koung also held talks with his Nigerian Counterpart, Vice President Kashim Shettima.
The two leaders recognized the need to forge strong economic bonds and reaffirmed their commitment to strengthen the long-standing diplomatic relations between both Nations and peoples.
VP Koung was engaged in fruitful discussions with His Excellency Olusegun Obasanjo, former President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
The meeting centered on the democratic gains Liberia has made and the need to form strategic global and regional partnerships for economic development.
Bayelsa State is famously called the “GLORY OF ALL LANDS" and contains Nigeria's largest gas reservoir or crude deposits.
The State has immense potential in the Petroleum industry, Agriculture, and Fisheries.
Vice President Koung will travel to the Kingdom of Morocco later today to attend the Parliamentary Conference on South-South Cooperation and address the forum on February 16, 2024.
